Sunday Worship at Bethany

Interior of Bethany

Please come and worship with us. All are invited and visitors are always welcomed.

During the summer months, Sunday worship begins at 10:00 a.m., and there is no adult Sunday School class. We will return to our 10:30 a.m. start time in September (it will be publicized here, as well as in the newsletter). Please join us!

From September through May, Adult Sunday School begins at 9:00 am, and our regular Sunday morning worship service is held weekly at 10:30 a.m. Holy Communion services are held the first and third Sunday of each month. The congregation is small, but dedicated to the Lord's service, and welcomes visitors and new members with open arms. Please accept our invitation to worship with us at any time.

If you have been considering visiting Bethany, but have not been able to visit in person, please accept our invitation to visit "virtually" by listening to a recent sermon. Please keep in mind that a true worship experience requires your presence within the assembly, and these recordings are not intended as a substitute.

Following are downloadable recordings of recent sermons:

Christmas Eve Sermon - December 24, 2009
by Rev. Robert Newpher, Transitional Interim Pastor

Each is saved as an MP3 file -- if it doesn't play on your system with just a click of the link, you can download the file by "right-clicking" and choosing "Save target as..."; once saved you should be able to open and play in any MP3 player.

About Holy Communion

All baptized worshippers are invited to receive Holy Communion. If you believe in Jesus Christ and are baptized, come and receive His true body and blood, given and shed for the forgiveness of all your sins. Non-communing children are invited to the altar to receive a blessing.

The bread and wine are distributed to the congregation in groups gathered at the altar rail. Individual glasses are used to distribute wine. Those who prefer to receive the wine from the chalice may go to the altar rail with the last group of communicants.

The deacons will assist the worshippers at the time of the distribution of the Sacrament. If (for health reasons) you need to have the pastor bring the communion elements to you in the pew, please inform one of the deacons. Communing members and visitors are asked to fill out a Communion Card and hand it to the acolyte who is assisting your approach to the altar.

Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church is located at 3104 West Liberty Avenue in Dormont.
