About the service
The BELC "Helping Hands" program is a free service available to our local neighbors as well as to members of our congregation. It is a free service, intended to help folks who are homebound, shut-in, or perhaps sick or disabled or otherwise not physically able to complete these tasks themselves. The tasks are usually simple in nature, and can be completed in a relatively short period of time. We don't do plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC or any other tasks typically done by a licensed contractor -- our services are limited to tasks that can be fulfilled by simply lending a "helping hand."
Here are some examples of the types of "help requests" we are able to fulfill:
I have some windows that need to be washed
(interior or ground level exterior only, sorry no work involving ladders)
I need help with a general exterior yard clean-up task
raking / bagging of leaves
I need help with a general exterior yard clean-up task
trimming a shrub or hedge (sorry, no trees or work involving ladders)
I need help moving a heavy item (such as a large box, a window-mounted air conditioner, a piece of furniture, etc. -- please describe your need below)
I have a small interior or exterior painting project (please describe your specific task below; note: we ask that you supply the paint)
I need help putting up or taking down holiday decorations (such as a Christmas tree, again, no exterior projects involving ladders)
IMPORTANT: Please describe the specific nature of your need for help, and please establish the situation surrounding the applicant's need:
| Your Name: | |
| Email: |
Please provide the name, address and phone number of the person in need:
| Name: | |
| Address: | |
| City: | |
| State: | |
| Zip Code: | |
| Phone: | |
Each application will be evaluated to determine if we are able to assist or possibly refer the need to someone else. We will reply either to set up a time to fulfill the request, or to advise that we are unable to fulfill the request. Because we are a small group of volunteers, we will address each request as quickly as we can get to it, on a first-come, first-served basis. Again, there is no charge for these services.
It is our hope that folks within the congregation who could use a "helping hand" with some small tasks would take advantage of the program. If you know of someone who could use a hand with some small task, please tell them about the program. If you would like to lend a helping hand, please contact the church office (412-531-9363) -- we are especially looking for students interested in obtaining Community Service hours credit.
